How can equipment that can “see” and understand product defects boost a factory's yield rate by 30%?
2025-04-23
In the wave of intelligent transformation in the manufacturing industry, visual inspection equipment is becoming a key tool for enterprises to improve product quality. With its ability to accurately identify defects, such equipment has helped many factories increase their pass rates by more than 30%, attracting widespread attention from the industry.
Traditional manual quality inspection is limited by the resolution of the human eye and fatigue, struggling to meet the stringent requirements of modern industry for precision and efficiency. An executive from an electronics manufacturing enterprise revealed, "Manual quality inspection can handle around 2,000 pieces per day on average, with a high missed detection rate of 8%, and labor costs accounting for over 15%." In contrast, visual inspection equipment, relying on AI image recognition technology and high-resolution industrial cameras, can complete a full scan of products within 0.1 seconds, achieving a detection accuracy of 0.01 millimeters, equivalent to one-sixth the diameter of a human hair.
In practical applications, the effectiveness of visual inspection equipment is immediately evident. A well-known mobile phone component manufacturer, after introducing this equipment, conducted full-process inspections on precision components such as camera modules and displays. Through deep learning algorithms that compare and analyze tens of thousands of standard images and defect samples, the equipment can accurately identify more than 20 types of defects, including soldering joint voids and surface scratches. As a result, the pass rate increased from 72% to 98%, saving over 12 million yuan in rework costs annually.
The automotive manufacturing sector has also witnessed breakthroughs brought about by technological innovation. An automotive parts factory used to struggle with an internal defect issue in engine blocks, such as air holes and shrinkage porosity, causing the pass rate to remain at around 65% for a long time. After deploying 3D visual inspection equipment, with the help of CT tomography scanning and point cloud data analysis technologies, the equipment can penetrate the metal surface and detect internal defects invisible to the naked eye. This has raised the pass rate of engine blocks to 95% and increased production capacity by 40% year-on-year.
"The popularization of visual inspection equipment marks the shift of the manufacturing industry from 'experience-driven' to 'data-driven'," pointed out Li Gong, a researcher at the China Intelligent Manufacturing Association. With the integration of 5G and edge computing technologies, the equipment can achieve real-time cloud data sharing and algorithm iteration, further enhancing detection efficiency and accuracy. It is estimated that in the next three years, the market size of visual inspection equipment will expand at an average annual growth rate of 25%, covering more fields such as food, pharmaceuticals, and new energy, continuously empowering the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry.
